Marietta Shipley, Judge of the Second Circuit Court for Mr. Martin wrote about these skills and about what it takes to be a successful advocate in his Nashville Bar Journal column, “Beside the Bench: Critical Tips for Litigation from the Cheapest Seat in the House.” His column was dedicated to suggesting effective methods for courtroom persuasion. His columns dealt with such topics as: voir dire, opening statements, witness examinations, and the importance of intense preparation, among others.
