Experience

After his graduation from law school, Mr. Martin served as a law clerk to Hon. Marietta Shipley, Judge of the Second Circuit Court for Davidson County, Tennessee.  During his clerkship, he assisted Judge Shipley with all aspects of her civil docket, including dozens of bench and jury trials, which helped him hone his skills as an advocate.

Mr. Martin wrote about these skills and about what it takes to be a successful advocate in his Nashville Bar Journal column, “Beside the Bench:  Critical Tips for Litigation from the Cheapest Seat in the House.”  His column was dedicated to suggesting effective methods for courtroom persuasion.  His columns dealt with such topics as:  voir dire, opening statements, witness examinations, and the importance of intense preparation, among others.

Mr. Martin has shared his experiences and suggestions at seminars sponsored by the Nashville Bar Association on two previous occasions, and annually works with high school students at Montgomery Bell Academy as they prepare for the nationwide mock trial competition.

Before Mr. Martin joined Drescher & Sharp in May of 2005, he was a litigation associate at Cornelius & Collins, LLP in Nashville.

Mr. Martin is admitted to practice law in the Tennessee state courts, as well as the United States District Courts for the Middle District of Tennessee.
